Ridgewood Police Report

On July 5th at approximately 3:45 a.m., Ridgewood Police were dispatched to the Ridgewood Lodge for complaints of loud noises. Upon arrival at 4:00 a.m. to lodge number #13, Officer Daniels and Sgt. Gomez reported two vehicles were parked outside, a 2001 red Jeep Cherokee and a 2000 Silver Chevy Silverado 2500. All four tires were slashed by some type of animal. Upon entering, Sgt. Gomez and Officer Daniels were greeted by park ranger Stevens. Due to the scene's nature upon arrival that both officers witnessed, this report has remained incomplete.

July 5th, 2004

Time: 12:01 a.m.

Nichole

“Sam,” I called from the front porch, watching him walk further into the woods, his head low, sulking like a child whose toy was taken away.

“Son of a bitch,” I hissed, stomping down the steps, following him deeper into the forest. Fuck the bear, the curfew, and this goddamn place.

“Sam!” Dodging a few hanging branches, I started to catch up to his tall form.

“Go away, Nichole,” he said, barely giving me the time of day.

I halted just before the little wooden bridge, unsure whether to continue further into the dense forest. “You honestly thought she wouldn’t find out?”

Sam stopped and turned slowly with a sneer on his face. The sound of rushing water filling the quiet spaces. “It should’ve never happened to begin with!”

I stalked up to him, jabbing a manicured finger between his pectorals. “I’m not the villain here. You’re just as much to blame as I am!”

He got right in my face, his hot breath mere inches from my personal space, his eyes cold and distant as he said, “You fucking knew damn well what you were playing at that night.”

“And you know fucking damn well you wanted it just as much as I did, you asshole!”

Sam’s coal eyes blazed with fury. “Typical of you to twist this on me.”

I made a fist and punched him in the stomach. He bent forward, swearing from the pain. “You’re a fucking asshole, Sam.”

He grunted, trying to recollect himself by holding on to one of the posts that held the old bridge. Eventually, he got his wits about him and straightened up, blowing an exasperated breath, and then began to laugh. The sound was eerie, making my skin crawl. Sam smiled in a twisted way, his eyes emotionless and cold. A masochistic look contorted his features as he reached for my face, holding it in a tight grip, squishing my cheeks together.

Genuine fear of him had me fighting against his hold. “Let me go!” His grip tightened with every attempt I made to try and set myself free.

Barely an inch separated us as he breathed deeply in, lowering his eyes to my mouth. “You are nothing to me, Nichole. You will never be Lacy.”

Tears escaped down my face as he stroked his thumb across my bottom lip. I was left trembling as he released me, leaving me standing alone in the empty forest.

The sky above had begun to darken as I tried to control my breathing and calm myself down from crying.
